Amazon’s Echo speakers are famous for their built-in speech assistant, Alexa. Although it requires WiFi to function, this may disappoint users who have an Echo Dot or other Echo speaker but no active WiFi connection. Fortunately, Bluetooth is included into every Echo device, so you can use it to play music or audio files stored on your phone. As a Bluetooth speaker, you may use your Echo Alexa device without WiFi or an internet connection. Continue reading to learn more.
Use the Alexa Echo as a Bluetooth Speaker Without Internet or Wi-Fi
The new Amazon Echo you just purchased doesn’t have a working WiFi connection at the moment? Another possibility is that you’re using Alexa to play music through Bluetooth, but your WiFi subscription has expired. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered from start to finish, including how to pair Alexa with your phone’s Bluetooth.
If you have previously associated your Echo device with your phone’s Bluetooth, you don’t need to follow these instructions. When you turn it on, your phone’s Bluetooth will instantly connect. Manually connect from the phone’s Bluetooth menu if you can.
Enabling the phone’s WiFi hot spot is the first step
First and foremost, make sure your phone is set to create a WiFi hotspot.
In Android’s Settings > WiFi & Network > WiFi Hotspot, you can turn it on.
From Settings > Personal Hotspot, iPhone users can turn on the hotspot.
Second, connect and configure the Echo Alexa.
Your Alexa Echo should now be plugged in.
Open the Alexa app on your phone after you’ve installed it.
If you haven’t already, sign in with your Amazon credentials.
Select “More” > “Add Device.”
If you want to use an Amazon Echo, select the model you want to use.
To proceed after Alexa enters setup mode, follow the onscreen instructions.
When prompted, allow the use of location services.
To connect, go to the WiFi hotspot on your phone and type in the password.
Say Alexa to test the device after it’s been set up.
Third, connect Alexa to Bluetooth on your phone and get started.
Take a look at the settings on your iPhone or Android device.
Activate Bluetooth by going to Bluetooth and clicking on the switch.
You can do this by saying “Alexa, connect to Bluetooth” or “Alexa, pair.”
Select “Pair New Device” on your phone. Allow it to perform a search for compatible devices.
You should be able to find the Echo in the list of available devices.
To link your Echo with your phone, simply tap it.
Whenever Alexa is linked to your phone, it will say, “Playing from phone’s name>.”
Using Alexa without WiFi is now possible.
You can now stop your phone’s WiFi hotspot because Alexa has successfully associated with your phone’s Bluetooth. Bluetooth audio can be streamed from your phone to the Echo via the device’s built-in speaker. Afterwards, you can remove it from your phone’s Bluetooth menu.
When you switch on the Echo device, it will instantly establish a connection with your phone, even if WiFi is not present. Open the Bluetooth settings on your phone and choose your Echo from the list of associated devices if it doesn’t automatically detect your phone.
Is it possible to connect an Echo Dot to your phone and use it as a speaker?
To connect external speakers, all Echo devices have AUX connections. Aux inputs are not available on Echo Dot, Spot, Show, or Auto. All save the Echo 3rd generation feature aux inputs, whereas only the Echo Plus and Echo Studio have them.
However, despite the fact that the Echo Dot and other incompatible Echo devices can be plugged into external speakers, the AUX wire cannot be used to play music from your phone. I attempted to do so with my Echo Dot, but it was unsuccessful.
Is Alexa able to function without power?
The Amazon Echo devices must always be connected to a wall outlet. The Alexa gadget won’t turn on or do anything else if it doesn’t have electricity. However, there are a few ways to use Alexa devices even if you don’t have access to electricity.
An Echo Input version with a built-in 4800mAh battery is available for purchase via Amazon. You can, however, utilise third-party battery bases to run an Echo or Echo Dot on a battery if you already own one.
Alexa requires a connection to the Internet to work (unless you want to use it only as a Bluetooth speaker). If you have a WiFi hotspot on your phone, you can use that to connect to the device. If power outages are to blame, a mini-UPS for your WiFi router may be the solution.
Final Thoughts
Using your Echo Alexa as a Bluetooth speaker doesn’t require WiFi or an internet connection, as this guide explains. In the absence of WiFi, you can still enjoy music through your Echo speaker. Anyhow, I’d love to hear your ideas in the space provided below. Keep an eye out for more.
